After learning that Frank Zalpata was a corrupt cop who had purposely broken the chain of custody on the Edward Green case, Captain Brenda Hayes re-assigned the investigation into Sue Miller's abduction to Detective Lillian Ayer, Officer Dante Jones, and Officer John Samuels.
Detective Ayer reinterviewed Detective Miller while Officer Jones and Samuels reinterviewed the bar tender. The officers learned that Richard Blackmore, the owner of a local shipping company, had bribed and coerced the bartender, Victor Blake, into slipping scopolamine into Detective Miller's drink. The bartender was apprehended and return to the police station.
Detective Ayers and the officers questioned Blackmore. He denied any involvement but with the testimony of Blake officers obtained a warrant from Judge Warren. Detective Ayer searched Blackmore's residences for scopolamine but turned up empty handed. Officer Jones and Sameuls went to the warehouse district to ensure no Blackmore employees could try to remove evidence before the detective arrived. When Ayers returned, they presented their warrant and went into the warehouse.
Blackmore was using his own blood to leave a symbol on the warehouse floor, but when he saw the officers he opened fire. Officers returned fire. He fled deeper into the warehouse. Officers pursued him throughout the aisles, and eventually Officer Sameuls caught up and tackled him. He was handcuffed and brought to the station.
Later, evidence techs discovered a significant amount of scopolamine stored in the warehouse owned by Blarkmore Shipping.
Since Detective Miller was apparently unharmed, the reason for abduction remains a mystery.
